About half an hour before the train from Birmingham arrived at Worcester Parkway a lorry struck a
bridge in Pershore causing considerable damage which resulted in the Cotswold Line being closed all
day. GWR provided no alternative transport so the original planned walk in Moreton in Marsh had to be
abandoned.
Felt especially bad for Hema who had made the journey up from London Paddington. She made it to
Moreton in Marsh and then managed to get over to Bourton on the Water for the day.
The rest of us met up with Roz and Hugh Jones at Parkway and we decided to do a 7 mile Plan B walk to
Kerswell Green.
After crisscrossing several railway lines the walk took us through Wadborough and past the timber
framed Pirton church. After stopping for lunch on the banks of Pirton Pool we made our way up to
Pirton Castle folly and onto our house in Kerswell Green.
After a well deserved cup of tea and a couple of pints of Proper Job in The Potting Shed I shuttled
everyone into Worcester for more refreshments at The Dragon Inn.
