Dave Lucas was the first to arrive at Parkway off the London train quickly followed by everyone else off the Cardiff service. Nice to see Dave Lucas and Gary Corbett who haven't been on a walk for ages.
We set off from Parkway over the footbridge and onto a bridleway which took us through fields of broad beans, woodland and maize fields to Spetchley Hall and deer park. The sun came out and it got very hot and humid.
Once through Spetchley Park we got into a bit of a fight with a bunch of nettles and overgrown briar and unfortunately Norah got stung by a wasp. The first aid kit supplied some cream and wipes for stings, cuts and grazes and we continued on our way over the M5 and into Worcester Woods Country Park for a well deserved lunch.
After lunch the walk took us through Nunnery and Perry Woods, then down Fort Royal Hill and into the College Green of Worcester Cathedral, via the Edgar Tower which once formed part of the old City Walls.
The walk then continued through the Watergate and followed the River Severn through the City Centre and onto refreshments at the Dragon Inn in The Tything. The smell of the cooking from The Anarkali Indian restaurant next door proved too much to ignore and six of us sampled its cuisine, while Ray, Norah and Brenda tucked into Fish and Chips back at The Dragon.
Paul Freeman.
