On arriving at stone we waited for Dave Thomas to pass through working his last Manchester bound train before retirement .
In fine weather compared to yesterday's weather we walked as long the Trent Mersey canal .
After around 2half mile we left canal to go under the railway and follow fields and tracks into Barlaston .
We had lunch on picnic benches before following path through Barlaston downs and then a short road walk and fields to rejoin the canal back to stone .
On arrival we made our way to the Bore hole pub where we were met by ex Bescot / Langley green / washwood heath shunter Nick Edwards I had not seen him since my shunting days 1986 a surprise also for me when my uncle walked in also
Good day and enjoyable time after had by all
A.Dulson
