After waking up to find out delays on our train to Lancaster it didn't turn out too bad just a trip to Wolverhampton to connect with the train so arrived as planned really .

After dropping our luggage off we started to walk along the river Lune footpath to the Lune aqueduct .

Then joining the Lancashire canal to Hest bank where a short road walk took us to the promenade and a very windy walk into Morecombe dodging the sand storms .but good views across the bay .

We also stopped to have photos taken by the Eric Morecombe statue unfortunately Mick Farkas had a leg injury on the first step going up to the statue , which ended his walking for the next few days

After refreshment at the station pub, site of the old railway station we got the train back to Lancaster and checked in to our hotels

Grange over sands circular via Cartmel

10 miles

Walkers present : same as Monday with exception of k.Maguire ,MSadler ,M.Farkas and joined by D.Martin (10)

We caught the 1013 train to Grange in glorious blue skies and sunshine .

A short road walk took us to a steep forest path which we followed until reaching Hampsfell .

We proceeded up hill with fantastic views all around us to the view point on top of Hampsfell known as the Hospice .

After a short break and admiring the views from the top of the Hospice via some very narrow steep steps we carried on across fields to Cartmel

On arrival at Cartmel we had our lunch stop then on via the racecourse and lanes to Cark and Cartmel station where Mick Farkas was waiting .

Some of the group left us here and plan was to go into the Engine inn then train back to Grange to wait for the group but didn't go to plan as pub closed and next 2trains cancelled so they waited a hour for train but enjoyed a ice cream I believe from local shop.

The 6 of us left continuing the walk through flookburgh via fields and roads to Kent,s bank on along promenade to Grange .

After meeting up with others we got train back to Lancaster what a cracking day weather wise Eric Morecombe did bring us sunshine today .

Carnforth circular 7 miles via Warton

Walkers present : same as Tuesday with exception of Dale Martin and joined by Phil and Mary (11)

We caught train into Carnforth and then after seeing how many people you can get into a toilet for 30p

We walked upto the Lancashire canal and followed this before crossing fields alongside the river Keer before a farmer's track brought us into Warton.

We walked down the main st passing George washington family home and some of us went to old rectory and church others went straight to the old school brewery where Mick Farkas was waiting .

It was Kim Freeman's birthday today so we all enjoyed a bit of time having food and drink .

Then some of us walked the short walk back to Carnforth and others got the bus and visited the Carnforth Hertitage museum on the railway station

(Brief encounter fame )

Then trains back to Lancaster where Paul treated Kim to afternoon visiting the prison .

That evening we had a great last night at the Merchants for Kim's birthday .

Thursday 20th October 2022

Lancaster circular 7.8 miles via Aldcliffe

This walk was optional and forecast was rain so only four of us took the option

Walkers present : A.Dulson ,R.jones,H.Jones ,D.Peters

We set off from the Millennium bridge in dull conditions but no rain following the river Lune along promenade until reaching where the path passes through marshland the only worrying thing was the signs that people and dogs has been attacked on this path by dogs that some unsavoury people trained to attack people.

But we carried on with bit of apprehension but all was fine and we joined smugglers lane to Aldcliffe

Then on to Lancashire canal to the Lune aqueduct by this time the rain has started

We had one stop to assist with the rescue of a duck that was caught up in some fishing wire around its beak/ tongue area but Hugh did a fine job with a couple of locals to free the duck

.At the lune aqueduct we followed the river Lune as we did on Monday but in reverse .

We collected baggage on our arrival back in Lancaster and got the train home

Good few days walking in area that club not walked much

Thanks all

A.Dulson
