Monmouth multi-day walk (13-16/10/25)

Monday 13th October 2025

Symonds Yat to Monmouth 7 miles 

Via Wye valley riverbank 

Walkers present : A.Dulson, J.Rutland , M.Sadler, B.Kennedy ,D.Martin,N.Graham,B.Mulreanan (7)

After all of  us arriving safely in Monmouth by car we caught the1325 bus to Whitchurch roundabout (Symonds yat west ) .

We passed through a caravan park to join river Wye path to the Saracens head foot ferry where we crossed to the east bank.

After a quick refreshment stop.at Saracens head we proceeded along the east side of riverbank to Bibbins rope bridge  which Jon Rutland conquered his fears and crossed this .

We carried on along the west side of riverbank into Monmouth where we checked in to our accommodation. 

Tuesday 14th October 2025

Coleford to Monmouth 7.5 miles 

Via Newlands and Redbrook 

Walkers  present :(7) same  as monday 

After a Leisurely breakfast we caught the 1055 bus to Coleford .

A short road walk took us to rocky paths descending on the Burial path to newlands .

On arrival at Newlands we looked around the church known as catherdral of the forest before descending  steeply down a road .

Then on across  underlating fields and woodland paths to arrive at the river Wye at Redbrook. 

Refreshments at the Boat inn where a decision was made to follow the river bank back to Monmouth rather then the steeper offas dyke route although Mark Sadler did go this way meeting up with us back at Monmouth bridge .

Wednesday  15th October 2025

Redbrook to Tintern Abbey 8 miles 

Via Wye valley riverbank 

Walkers present : (8) same as Monday/ Tuesday but with A.Walton joining us 

We caught the 1020 bus to Redbrook with Andy Walton making a gallant effort and joining us for the day .

We followed the old railway track bed alongside the river Wye before joining riverbank at this point Mark sadler left us to follow a steeper route meeting us at Tintern 

We followed the river bank through to Bigsweir changing to other side of river onto Brooksweir and Tintern old station .

Refreshments were had at the cafe and a look.around the information boards  in some rsilway coaches and couple of us even had time to try out the kids playground zip wire .

We then carried on to Tintern via riverside and pavements before Refreshments and the bus back to Monmouth 

The group had a meal in a Italian restaurant that evening .

Thursdsy 16th October 2025 

There was a option of a short stroll around Monmouth which 4 of us took this option 

A.Dulson, N.Graham, J.Rutland,M.Sadler 

Walking by Monmouth viaduct , Castle, museum and crossing the Monnow bridge around 2.5 miles 

Everyone else opted to go home 

A good 4 days away with no rain and think everyone enjoyed it only complaint was from tuesdsy the Wetherspoons had no guest ales !
