Monday 11th October
After arriving in Berwick at 1220 we dropped off of our luggage and after a short time to have lunch or a wander around 21 members of the group boarded minibuses to start of todays afternoon walk.
We started the walk from Maryfields bridge just over the Scottish border following a lane over the a railway bridge to start of coastal path.
With fine views we followed the coastal path up to the railway border sign where a few photos were taken before proceeding through a caravan park and passing the needles eye rock
Arriving at the outskirts of Berwick near the golf course the weather began to change so waterproofs where required it was here that a option of carrying on towards Berwick pier or pass through cow gate into Berwick town
More than half the group chose the town due to the rain and other half carried on passing the pier and city walls the walk was 6-7 miles.
The evening was spent at various venues
Tuesday 12th October
Todays minibuses to Lindisfarne didn’t depart till 1045 so everyone had time for a leisurely breakfast .
On arrival at Lindisfarne the 20 walkers left the car park via a path through the sand dunes to the spectacular north beach.
Before carrying on across sands and rocks via Combe haven to Sandham bay and eventually to Emmanuel head then on to Lindisfarne castle.
At the castle the group split and those who had booked the castle enjoyed the tour of the castle others went off into the town or walked to old life boat station and various other places on the island.
The Minibuses left at 16:45 on good time save us swimming the causeway
The weather was great and I think everyone was pleasantly surprised how lovely the island is.
The evening was spent at the Magna Tandoori which I had booked for all 25 of us, a great night was had lovely food, a waiter who served all 25 of us on his own deserved a medal for that and despite the usual hassle of paying the bill.
Wednesday 13th October
Another fine day started with minibuses taking 23 of us to Burnmouth village hall where we joined the coastal path.
With good views of Burnmouth harbour we followed the coastal path along the headland till arriving at Eyemouth golf course where we left the headland to walk round the harbour to cross the river Eye and head to the sea front of Eyemouth.
Some of the group stopped the walk here (4.5 miles) and returned by bus to Berwick
The rest of the group carried on after a lunch stop to St Abbs via Eyemouth fort and Coldingham bay this part was tougher than first part of walk with many descents and steep ascents.
On arrival at St Abbs we followed the Creel path and roads to Coldingham (9.5 miles) where time was taken to look at Coldingham priory and the 2nd hand bookshop for some
The group then split again with some deciding to stay at Coldingham for refreshment others getting the bus straight back to Berwick
Those who decided to stay got the best deal on the bus as this was £1.20 cheaper than earlier bus and Andy even used his English bus pass on it in Scotland.
The evening was spent at various venues and as some of the group decided to go home next day stayed out later in the Barrels with some entertainment from the local Freddy Mercury look alike.
Thursday 14th October
With some of the group leaving today we did a circular from Berwick along side the river Tweed in very windy conditions passing under the impressive railway viaduct and some of the remains of Berwick castle (6.5 miles).
Arriving back in Berwick town at 12:40 after lunch 7 of us did a walk around Berwick walls and 5 of us braved the walk along the pier to the lighthouse
which in high winds was well worth doing with the amount of bird life and even saw a couple of seals.
Our last evening was spent in the Limoncello Italian restaurant to end a fine few days.
On Friday 15TH rest of group travelled home on various trains
Hopefully everyone enjoyed this break and wish to thank you all for making it this way of course the weather helped
Also like to thank you all although there was no need for the thank you card and voucher and for those who helped to arrange meals and baggage drops etc
