Tuesday Ashbourne circular 7miles

We all met in Ashbourne in good time for our 1pm start

We passed through the Tissington trail tunnel before ascending and descending fields to Hangman's bridge and viewed the Rock house .

We then took a steep road up to upper Mayfield passing various old buildings before decending a field where a long haired horse came to see us or frighten us in some cases (Ros)

After saying goodbye to the horse we carried on to Mayfield hall where we met the owner walking her dog apparently she had moved from little Aston don't think it was a down size move and you may know sizes of houses in Little Aston

Our next bit of walking took us to church Mayfield then on to Mayfield mill and Clifton .

Before a short walk alongside a brook took us back to Ashbourne

After a footwear change we drove to Hartington yha our accommodation for the next couple nights ,food and drink was at the local pub (Devonshire arms ) that evening .

Wednesday Hartington circular 10 miles

After a bacon sarnie for some of us and a full breakfast for others (Dale)

We walked down into Hartington village before following lanes and fields with excellent views and weather to Pillsbury castle .

After a brief drink stop we carried on up to Longnor village where lunch was taken .

The return to Hartington took us alongside the river Manifold which made it very muddy and boggy in places .

We passed through sheen then across fields to Hartington

The steak deal in another village pub( Charles Cotton hotel ) was destination for evening meal

Thursday Hartington circular 8.5 miles

Today's walk started yet again with a bacon sarnie for most of us and full breakfast for Dale .

We followed field paths to join a woodland path and then a pleasant walk through Beresford dale alongside the river Dove .

We then followed a few steep fields through Narrowdale with excellent views back to where we walked yesterday .

On arriving at Alstonefield we had a look round the village and church before lunch on village green .

After lunch we took lanes and rough paths before a very steep descent down to the river Dove in Wolfscote dale .

We walked along the banks of the river before turning up Bigginsdale which was flooded but passable .

After leaving Biggindale we followed track bck to the hostel

After a drive down into Hartington village for a quick drink and to say goodbye to Dale who was staying extra night only wanted another breakfast .

Andy didn't attend this walk he departed by bus to Ashbourne and Derby for his train home

A fully enjoyable 3days couldn't have asked for better weather in march and think I may have converted a few to using the delights of the YHA
