Worcester to Bransford via the Severn and Teme Hams. 12.3 miles.

Attendees-

D. Chambers, M. Tinsley, D. Peters,

N. Graham, P. Freeman, K. Freeman,

H. Jones, R. Jones, K. Maguire,

H. Maguire, M. Simmons, J. Hickling.

The two Dave’s, Martin, Norah, Jason and Paul and Kim started the walk through Worcester and the Riverside, past the Cathedral and out of the City to the site of the Battle of Worcester at the Old Powick Bridge. The weather was perfect for walking. Not too hot. Not too cold with a gentle breeze. After crossing the Powick Hams, we climbed up to open countryside and corn fields with great views of the Malvern Hills range, before dropping down to cross the railway at Bransford Court. This is where Hugh and Ros caught up with us after missing their train at Droitwich. Through more corn fields the path took us into Bransford and the Fold where we met up with Karl, Lel and Mary.

This is the first time in the walking clubs history where we’ve actually gained walkers along the route and ended up with more than we started with.

After having lunch lakeside we took the path which followed the old railway line to Leominster and Bromyard. We rejoined the River Teme and followed it back into Worcester. A herd of Frisky cattle couldn’t stop our progress.

Karl was particularly impressed with the graffiti modern art which adorned the Southern Ring Road underpass and the Lower Wick Industrial Estate and insisted in taking photographic evidence.

After rejoining the River Severn, we walked through the Cathedral Watergate and Edgar Tower to the Cardinals Hat, Worcester’s oldest pub, for refreshments.

The longest club walk for a while.

Well done to all of you!
