Well it was a very wet start to the day, but it did ease for the start of the walk at 13.00. We left the station and followed roads which took us on to the Wheelock discussed railway line. After 3.5 miles we sheltered under the M6 motorway bridge and took a quick lunch break. This was also the start of our next track bed, the Salt line. On from this we crossed a field before country lanes led us back on to the Trent & Mersey canal. There were a lot of tired legs for these last two miles. We made it to the pub at 16.20, only to find no food this evening. After a Pork crunch starter and a few fine ales, a few opted to go in Stoke for food. A late night made worse by cancelled trains, but an enjoyable day.

Paul Bridges.
