Salisbury to Coombe Bissett 6.5 miles
Walkers present :A.Dulson,H.Jones .R.Jones,A.Howell,P.Cotterill,M.Simmonds,D.Hogg.D.Martin , B.Mulreanan.(9)
The walk started at 1pm to give everyone time to arrive, firstly meandering through the Salisbury meadows with a good view of Salisbury cathedral despite the drizzle and dull day.
A road walk took us on to a path passing a old chalk pit then on to open fields well they were open fields but now a fence due to house building blocked my original path.
So we had to divert via the side of farmers fields which due to the wet weather stuck to our boots like walking on stilts and made it hard walking , we eventually reached Salisbury race course which we crossed to a lane .
At this point we had a choice of the lane to Coombe Bissett which Phil and Mary did or carry on across fields and a short road walk to the small hamlet of Stratford Tony .
From here we followed the banks of the river Ebble in to Coombe Bissett to join Phil and Mary at the fox and Goose for refreshment and then returned to Salisbury to check in our accommodation.
Tuesday 13th October
Salisbury to Amesbury 9.7 miles
Walkers present : As above plus A.Walton (10)
The walk started at 10am in blue skies following the banks of the river Avon on tracks before a slightly muddy section took us footbridge and on to a short road section through Stratford sub castle .
After joining a path gradually climbing up to the entrance of old Sarum castle which Dave and Mary went into whilst everyone else walked round the outside with great views all round .
After leaving the castle we followed tracks and lanes into upper Woodford but not before just after the castle we said our goodbyes to Phil, Mary , Dale ,Brenda who went off to visit a aviation museum and brewery .
The remaining walks took the chance to have refreshments sitting in the beer garden alongside the river in gorgeous sunshine.
Then followed paths to reach the road at Amesbury and cross the road bridge over the Avon and finishing at the Bell wetherspoons and then return by bus back to Salisbury which we sat upstairs on and it actually had tables much to the delight of Dave .
After saying our goodbyes to Andy who made a great effort to come for the day the evening was spent doing a quiz or watching a footie match .
Wednesday14th October
Salisbury to Downton 8.5 miles
Walkers present: As above except A.Walton ,M.Simmonds,P.Cotterill (7)
The walk started at 11am with a walk through the Cathedral quarter before a short road walk to the steepest part of walk 113 steps on to a road before descending steps down to a main road and cross over to more steps and into open fields.
We followed paths to join the Avon valley way which took us to the village of Odstock which we passed through before more field paths.
Just after Odstock Dale and Brenda left us to walk into the village of Nunton to get bus back to Salisbury
The 5 remaining Walkers carried across the fields and a very busy main road was crossed onto lanes in to Charlton all saints were we had a lunch stop at the church .
Following paths through the village we yet again joined banks of the Avon and into Downton.
Refreshments were taken in the Goat inn before a short road walk passed the thatched cottages of the village to the main road and got the bus back to Salisbury .
On arrival at Salisbury we said our goodbyes to the Hugh and Ros as they were returning home .
We all met up for drinks and a very enjoyable meal at Charlie's kitchen Mediterranean restaurant also joined by john Roberts that evening.
