Barnsley to Silkstone common 8.5 miles. (21/08/26)

The weather had cooled and a risk of rain was threatened from around lunchtime. We began walking along the disused Barnsley canal. It's a shame the dog owners of South Yorkshire don't clean up their dog mess. We stopped for a drink break after we left the canal and crossed a small stream, unluckily for Mr Sear a small meteor fell from the sky and landed in the stream and soaked him. It was through the Gawbor estate and then on to our lunch stop. A great view was taken in, beyond the M1. This spot also gave us a chance of some Stobart nedding. The final 2 miles took us along the disused railway up to the village of Silkstone common, the rain didn't materialize which was a blessing .We reached the Station Inn where 8 of us enjoyed a fabulous Fish n chips meal. It was then a train back to Sheffield where a few sampled a few more, before making their way home.
