Bleasby to Morton via Southwell 7 miles (19/06/26)

A warm midsummer’s  day for our 7 mile walk through rural Nottinghamshire.   

I recced this walk over a year ago, and in  the opposite direction, which resulted in a couple of navigational discrepancies.  These were quickly corrected and didn’t cause any serious delays. The walk took us past fields of barley, wheat,  and sugar beet. 

 After a steady but gentle  climb the distinctive towers of Southwell Minster came into view. Ten minutes later we were taking our lunch break in the beautiful grounds.   

The final part through lanes within Southwell,  then a quiet lane and footpath to Fiskerton station.  This final section  gave us fine views of Southwell racecourse,  Staythorpe power station and Newark sugar factory.  

Notable wildlife during the walk a sight of three Buzzards, and earlier a Hare. 

The original intention was for the walk to finish at the Full Moon pub in Morton.  This was going to be a 15 minute walk from Fiskerton station,  and of course another 15 minutes back. Andy Walton  chose to head on to Morton , the rest of us decided to await the next train to Newark where well deserved refreshments were taken.
