Baslow to Grindleford 8 miles (6/06/23)

Today's walk didn't start well !

Firstly the 3of us that stayed over tryed a diffirent way to Chesterfield station and got a bit lost rushing towards the end to try make the 0945 bus

We got to station met Andy who had arrived at 0930 and wondered where we were but then there was no bus after looking at numerous bus tracking apps we discovered the bus had turned round at bus station and wasn't coming down to station due to late running .

We then had to make decision is it a taxi or wait for 1045 bus

So we decided taxi and asked about prices which everyone was happy with so off we went we then found out the bus delay as we sat in the taxi stuck in road works for half a hour

Well say road works was no work taking place

We then decided on arrival at Baslow that we have same problem on returning

So we didn't do the booked walk but did Baslow to Grindleford where we could get train back via Sheffield

In not so warm weather as yesterday we took field paths and and climbed up onto Baslow edge with good views of Chatsworth house in the distance

We followed this edge to Curbar edge and Froggatt edge before dropping down into Grindleford

We then followed the Derwent valley way at this point Phil decided to go up.to Grindleford station to try and get the earlier train.

So the 3of us followed the Derwent river with our minds set on going to Hathersage but as we got to coppice wood we had message from Phil saying he missed train and was in Grindleford station cafe

Conviently we just passed a signpost showing a footpath to Grindleford station so we followed this to join Phil and have a ice cream at the cafe

Then travelled back via Sheffield and some of us the Sheffield Tap also

Not great start to the day but turned into enjoyable day and a good end to couple days up here
