A MEMORIAL WALK FOR MICK FARKAS
The group set off in an easterly direction from Widney Manor station and a short rise up a private road led us to open fields and some shady woodland areas before reaching Brueton Park in Solihull. A short section of quiet road walking before we would arrive at the next section of field walks. John left us at this section to walk the shortcut to the walks goal, Mick's bench. The group arrived at the Grand Union canal and whilst walking along this, were surprised by John waiting patiently for us to arrive with still some way to go. After half an hour, we arrived at Damson Park and went to Mick's bench and admired the beautifully worded plaque attached to it. We were joined by Mick's wife, Alison who allowed us to sit in her garden where she offered us refreshments and a chance to recollect some memories of Mick. Some members chose to finish the walk by getting a bus into Solihull, the rest a walk up the old ash path ti the walks end. Paul and Kim were tucking into their lunch when we all arrived at the pub swelling out numbers. Helen joined us too, never missing an opportunity for a glass of fizz! An hour or two was then spent 'topping' up on the refreshments.
