Wow! What a scorcher and what a turnout!
The trains were behaving themselves despite the blistering heat and everyone met up as planned at Worcestershire Parkway for the short trip to Honeybourne.
After a stop at the CO-OP in Honeybourne for ice creams, courtesy of Ade Dulson, we marched on through blistering heat and scorched fields of maize and wheat. No money for farmers this year as every crop is ruined. Onwards we crossed the old tracked to Honeybourne and arrived at Willersey for the short climb to Foxhill Manor then under Fish Hill and into Broadway.
We slowed down the pace to walk through this beautiful Worcestershire village on the edge of the Cotswolds. What could be more quintessentially English than cotswold stone and being buzzed overhead by a Spitfire. After a drink of water and a photo opportunity with a Stormtrooper we made our way to Broadway station to catch the 1425 steam service to Cheltenham Racecourse on the GWSR.
After a stop to put out a lineside fire we called at Toddington where we were joined by a couple of legends,
Brian Elliott & Ray Wilcock who had enjoyed a lunch in 'The Pheasant.'
On arrival at Cheltenham Racecourse the onward walk to Cheltenham Spa station via the old Honeybourne Line cycleway was abandoned because of the high temperature. We all piled onto a bus to Cheltenham Spa station and after a short walk to the DEYA brewery we gorged ourselves on pizza and lovely beers. Never has a pint tasted so good!
Great to see everyone and thank you so much for coming.
What a great day out and great company too😁😎.
Keep an eye out on the website. I will be arranging a social evening at the DEYA brewery in the not too distant future.
Paul Freeman.
